How much does a TrackPilot cost?
Most skippers today choose the Tresco TrackPilot on subscription: €2,500 per year. That price is all-in: software, SmartTracks, updates and support included.
There is also an option to purchase a Tresco TrackPilot outright, but this is mainly used for newbuilds or when a subsidy requires a purchase. Below we explain both options clearly, so you know exactly where you stand.
TrackPilot on subscription: €2,500 per year
This is by far the most popular choice among inland waterway skippers. You avoid a large upfront investment and always sail with the latest software.
Cost
- €2,500 per year
Included
- Tresco TrackPilot software
- SmartTracks (automatic sailing lines)
- Online updates
- Live support & remote calibration
Why skippers choose this option
- No purchase cost
- Always up to date, at no extra charge
- Support included.
Buying a TrackPilot (alternative option)
This option is usually chosen:
- for new builds
- when a subsidy requires a purchase
- or by shipping companies with fixed investment structures
Cost
- One-time purchase: €12,500
- Annual maintenance (SmartTracks + updates): €600 per year
Good to know
- Functionality is identical to the subscription
- You pay for the system upfront
- Updates and SmartTracks continue via the annual maintenance fee
What determines the price of a TrackPilot?
A Tresco TrackPilot is not a standalone device, but an integrated steering assistant. The final cost depends on:
- The type of pilot already on board
- The chosen option (subscription or purchase)
- Any additional options (touch panel, GPS compass)
- Possible subsidies (e.g. Germany)

What is needed to install a TrackPilot?
The installation of a Tresco TrackPilot is deliberately kept simple. In most cases, everything is up and running within half a day.
Requirements on board
- Tresco Navigis software
- Compatible pilot (incl. Alphatron, RadioHolland, Veth, eProm, NavMate, Retina)
- GPS compass (preferably wheelmark-approved, e.g. JRC or Furuno)
One-time activation cost (if required)
- Modern pilots: €0 – €1,000
- Older systems with additional interface: approx. €2,000
Optional: 7″ touch panel
Some skippers opt for a separate control panel next to their main screen. Not required, but practical.
Useful for:
- Quickly switching between profiles
- Setting parallel lines
- Adjusting current speeds
Not required, but practical – and increasingly requested.
