Fleet management is evolving. The tools often aren’t
Inland shipping has changed considerably in recent years. More regulations, more reporting obligations, more questions from clients about ETAs and emissions. Yet on many office desks, planning still works the same way: calling the vessel, retyping data, piecing together information from different systems.
That takes time. And the larger the fleet, the more time it takes.
What is Tresco Fleet?
Tresco Fleet is Tresco’s fleet management platform, built specifically for inland shipping. It connects the wheelhouse to the shore office and gives planners, safety controllers and management real-time insight into their entire fleet.
The platform currently runs on more than 1,200 vessels at around 150 inland shipping companies. The concept is straightforward: at any moment, you can see where every vessel is, what it is carrying, and the status of voyage plans and compliance documents.
But Tresco Fleet does more than tracking. It automates a large part of the administration that comes with modern inland shipping – from cargo notifications and pre-departure checklists to reports for port authorities. All from one central platform, seamlessly connected to the Tresco navigation system on board.
One screen, complete overview
Fleet is more than a map with dots. The platform converts on-board data into usable information for the office: where are your vessels, what is the status of a voyage, which compliance documents have been submitted, and which reports still need to go to the client or the authorities? Via the Tresco Dashboard, all on-board activity comes together in a single view (voyage plans, OCIMF and EBIS documents, eReporting notifications) without making a single phone call or retyping a single figure.
In practice, Fleet takes over a large part of the administration that comes with modern inland shipping, from cargo notifications and pre-departure checklists to reports for port authorities and principals.
Reports that write themselves
Maintaining Excel files, manually copying data, compiling reports for clients or authorities — it takes more time than expected. Fleet automatically converts on-board data into ready-made reports, for you or for your principal.
What Fleet can report on:
- CO₂ reports: distance, fuel consumption and emissions, per vessel, route or period
- Port reports: automatic registration per port, vessel and period
- Voyage and status reports: loading, discharging, waiting – as an automatic logbook
You set it up once: choose the report type, frequency (daily, weekly or monthly), recipient and format (PDF, Excel or system integration). Fleet does the rest. Reports are automatically generated and sent – including retroactively if needed.
That makes a difference in the office, but also towards clients. Instead of passing on an ETA or status by phone, you simply share the data. Transparent, reliable, without any extra effort.
New: the Tresco Fleet mobile app
Tresco Fleet is now available as a mobile app.
Fleet managers and planners now have real-time access to the position and status of their vessels on the go. No laptop needed to check where a vessel is. No waiting until you’re back at the office to approve a voyage plan.
With the mobile app you can:
- Track your entire fleet on your smartphone
- Navigate directly to a vessel, with Google Maps and Waze integration
- View and follow up on pre-departure checklists
- Submit cargo reports and voyage plans directly from your phone
Tresco Fleet connects the captain on board with the planner and safety controller on shore – wherever they are.
New: fuel and emission profile
Alongside the mobile app, there is a second major update: the fuel and emission profile. Shipping companies can use this to map fuel consumption and CO₂ emissions — per vessel, per voyage or per client.
Emission requirements in inland shipping are becoming increasingly strict. Clients and authorities increasingly expect concrete sustainability data. With the emission profile in Tresco Fleet, you provide that data without any additional administration. The system calculates everything based on the voyage data that is already there.
Integration with BICS and Green Award
Tresco Fleet is now also linked to BICS and Green Award.
The BICS integration simplifies voyage and cargo reporting. What previously had to be done separately now happens from the same platform you already work in. Less switching between systems, fewer errors.
Through the Green Award connection, shipping companies can share CO₂ data per voyage and track their sustainability certification – towards clients, authorities and during audits. Companies participating in CO₂ registration via Green Award are also eligible for discounts on port fees.
From wheelhouse to office… and back
What makes Tresco Fleet unique is its integration with the Tresco ecosystem on board. Tresco navigation software runs on thousands of vessels. That data — position, route, speed, voyage plan — flows seamlessly into Tresco Fleet on shore.
That means: no double entry, no separate systems to synchronise. The captain works in his familiar Tresco environment on board; the planner sees the same information in real time at the office. Or on his phone.
For shipping companies that also use Tresco TrackPilot, the integration goes one step further. Voyage plans from Fleet can be sent directly to the system on board. This creates an unbroken chain: from planning, to navigation, to reporting.
Who is Tresco Fleet for?
Tresco Fleet is built for everyone who manages a fleet from a shore office:
Charterers and planners who want to know where their vessels are without having to call. Who want to give clients a reliable ETA based on real data. Who want to know the quickest way to reach a vessel.
Safety controllers who want to track compliance documents without drowning in paperwork. Who want to manage pre-departure checklists and cargo notifications centrally.
Management of shipping companies who want to reduce operational costs, simplify compliance, and prepare their fleet for stricter regulations around emissions and sustainability.
What does Tresco Fleet cost?
Tresco Fleet works with an annual licence per vessel. The exact price depends on the number of vessels and the modules selected, but to give an indication: an operator with ten vessels pays approximately €6,000 per year, an investment in efficiency that pays for itself very quickly.
